Barbra Streisand, Bill Nye, Ken Burns, and a couple of other Hollywood fossils just signed their names to a last-minute Democratic push to flip the House. Alley Owens here, and the desperation is visible from space. The DCCC is blasting emails with Streisand’s name on them telling voters that only a Democratic majority can check the president. Translation: please ignore the last four years of prices, crime, and open borders and remember that famous people used to like us. Streisand’s message is the usual mix of privilege and panic. She has a big platform, therefore she has a duty to speak, therefore you must vote the way she wants. Bill Nye, the guy who spent decades pretending science was whatever the current climate narrative required, is in the same pile. Ken Burns is there too, because nothing says “trust us with the House” like a documentarian who hasn’t made a non-partisan film since the Clinton administration. Democrats need three seats. Three. And the best they can muster is a group of people whose primary political skill is reading a script someone else wrote. This is the same crowd that spent the last decade lecturing working people about their carbon footprint while flying private and living behind gates. Now they’re shocked that those same people aren’t lining up to hand them power again. Alley’s savage take: if your closing argument is “famous people who haven’t had a normal job in forty years think you should vote Democrat,” you’ve already lost. Voters can see the emails. They can see the prices. They can see the cities that got worse under the last Democratic majorities. A celebrity endorsement doesn’t lower rent or make the border disappear. It just reminds everyone that the people begging for power are the same ones who treated the rest of the country like an audience that needed to clap on cue. Keep sending the emails. The rest of us will notice who still needs Hollywood to explain why their policies failed.
