Breaking from New York, where the only thing more reliable than the subway delays is Democrats refusing to hand over illegal aliens accused of violent crimes to ICE.
Kovy Carrillo-Flores, an illegal alien from Guatemala, is accused of raping a 16-year-old girl. When police tried to arrest him, he allegedly bit the officers. And New York Democrats are blocking his transfer to federal immigration authorities. Libs of TikTok flagged it. The response from the usual corners has been the same shrug they give every time this happens: the system is working as intended, and the real problem is the people pointing it out.
This isn't a paperwork mix-up. This is a pattern. Sanctuary policies that treat deportation as optional even when the crime is rape and the suspect is already in custody for assaulting the cops who showed up. The 16-year-old victim gets told the process will play out. The officers get told they should have expected resistance. And the public gets told that noticing the immigration status is the actual offense.
Democrats spent years arguing that illegal immigration was a net positive and that enforcement was cruel. Now they're in the position of defending the decision to keep someone accused of raping a minor inside the country because handing him to ICE would be 'inhumane.' The same party that wants to expand the Supreme Court and investigate every Trump official is suddenly very concerned about due process when the defendant crossed the border illegally and then allegedly committed a sex crime.
Voters in New York and everywhere else are watching this play out two weeks before the midterms. The generic ballot polls show Democrats with an edge. Stories like this are why a chunk of those voters keep looking at the fine print. You can lecture people about empathy all day. It gets harder when the empathy is directed at the accused while the victim is a teenage girl and the officers are the ones who got bitten.
The closer? If your border policy requires you to protect alleged rapists from deportation, don't act surprised when voters decide the policy is the problem. New York Democrats just gave them another example in real time.
